How to make the most effective vision board
Your “new year new me” just got a lot easier and more achievable with these hacks to help make an effective vision board.
What is a vision board?
A vision board is a collection of images, affirmations, dreams, desires designed to serve as motivation and inspiration to help you achieve your goals. This principle is based on the law of attraction, which is a philosophy that suggests like attracts like and therefore, thoughts are a form of energy and that positive energy attracts success in all areas of life, including health, finances, and relationships.
Why they actually work
Vision boards work because they filter out information in your brain and put them in once place you can visualize, which helps bring them into reality. Our brain’s are designed to naturally filter out information that that doesn’t serve us aka isn’t relevant to our survival. So, once you have a daily visual and reminder of these thoughts and aspirations your selective attention kicks in – meaning you begin to notice things you have in your life that are already on your vision board!
Creating your own vision board
Vision boards can be made from essentially anything. They can be digital, or paper, people commonly use magazines and photo cut outs, stickers, colored markers, and poster paper to design a physical vision board. Canva offers amazing templates to help you create a digital board, which is also less waste. However you choose to design yours it totally up to you and both are equally as effective!
4 hacks for the perfect vision board
- Have a clear goal | this is the only way to achieve your dreams, you must have a clear vision. Start by asking yourself what you really want in life and what you want to manifest. It can be anything from physical, and personal to emotional. Just make sure what you want is clear.
- Brainstorm, brainstorm, brainstorm | once you establish clarity, you can then begin your path to achieve those goals. Before you actually put the pieces together, think about what images, quotes, affirmations and the like you actually want to see on there, then start collecting magazines and images that resonate with these goals.
- Put the pieces together | now this is where things start getting fun! Start cutting out and arranging the board with everything you have gathered. Use fun stickers, pens or markers and whatever suits your style to personalize it, and remember your main goal, don’t get caught up in a bunch of ideas, focus on what you really want.
- Placement is everything | once you’ve completed your vision board, find a perfect place in the house to put your vision board. Choose a space you see often to help create daily inspiration, this will act as a reminder for all of your dreams and goals using the effective law of attraction principle.
So, how do I make it effective? Well, it’s not as difficult as you may think: simply look at your vision board every night before you go to sleep. This will serve as a friendly reminder to keep on track with your goals. There is also a phenomenon known as the Tetris Effect, which suggests the last thing you see before bed leaves an imprint on your subconscious, moreso than any other time of day. This is also why it’s important to keep your mood board close by, in a place you will see it often.
