The best habits you can build for a successful new year
Life is about making choices, which starts each day from the moment you wake up! Every choice you make has the ability to bring you closer to your goals and dreams. With the pressure of the new year in its full effect, you may be struggling to figure out your resolutions, or even how to get started on them. One valuable piece of advice is to start small, by making mindful choices to form healthier habits daily. As Van Gogh once said, “great things are done by a series of small things brought together!”
Are you ready to take control back in 2021? Look no further, here are the most effective daily habits that can actually change your life!
-
AM cell phone detox
Research has shown the more time you spend on social media, the more likely you are to become depressed. Now who wants to start their morning off with that? Certainly not me! Kick your morning phone addiction and jump out of bed without any distractions! By staying off your phone (and social media) you will have less distractions so you can focus on yourself and your health to take on a successful day. Try waking up each morning without immediately checking social media or replying to any text messages/emails (unless you have to) and watch your morning productivity improve.
-
Create a solid morning routine
Your mornings may look different now due to the pandemic, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make the best out of it! Choose a routine that suits your lifestyle, be true to yourself and it will become successful. To give you some AM goals, here are the top morning rituals of exceptionally successful people:
-
Schedule time for your self-care
This is SO important for our mental well-being, plus you always deserve a little R&R! Set a reminder on your phone each day, for as little as 5 minutes for a little you time! Do one thing that makes you feel good, like meditation, listening to music, stretching, reading, taking a hot bath, etc. the point is to squeeze in a little time for you! This will help to improve your mood, self-esteem and mental health, so don’t forget to find a little time for yourself every day!
-
Cut down on multitasking
Have you heard of single-tasking? Well it’s about to be your new favourite way to actually get things done around here! Apparently only 2% of people in the world know how to multitask successfully, meaning the rest of us are wasting time with mental clutter juggling different tasks, but not really accomplishing anything! Hence, single-tasking: prioritize a list of things you need to complete each day (most important - least important) and complete them one by one, no distractions.
-
Improve your sleep
The only way we can be successful is if we are healthy and recharged for the days to come, poor sleep can weaken your immune system and harm productivity, therefore making it much harder for you to be happy and focused. One of the most critical things you can do to improve the quality and duration of your sleep is these two things: - Avoid drinking caffeine after lunch
- Cut out electronic use/blue light exposure one hour before bed
Patience, effort and lots of determination will help you achieve a healthy routine! And remember, don’t give up! It can take time to build these new habits and incorporate them into your lifestyle. It takes 21 days (that’s less than a month) to form a new habit, so let’s get started!
