The title of this piece may make a few eyeballs roll backward, "what is she thinking? Who's shopping right now? The only thing I'm buying is food!" I hear you, but try and stay with me; this too shall pass, and when it does we will be slowly resuming a new daily life. In order to put our best foot forward while we inch back into the world, it'd be nice to feel good too. We are already moving towards a more conscious way of living and consuming goods, and retail is getting a little shake-up too. While some are leaving fast-fashion hauls behind and buying smart, others are taking stock of what they have and what they really need, (are you still with me? I thought you might be.) With the intention to shop well, I am investing in these key wardrobe icons that will serve me well and good, come what may.
I'll See You When We Get There
Ahhh, jewelry. The one item in our arsenals which pull an ensemble together, swiftly. From micro-trends like the '90s choker look to the curb chain, one trend we see standing the test of time is layering. The Rhys Kelly 14k Gold Eye Pendant is the perfect piece to sit between a fine choker and a longer herringbone chain.
A Little Denim Never Hurt Nobody
We all have a pile of jeans we rely on, and a plethora of separates we ritualistically pair with them. However, I feel like a denim jumpsuit like this tibi number is a bit of an unsung hero. Pair with sneakers on the weekend for laid back cool, or wear with a pair of kitten-heel mules to all those quarantine birthdays we will be celebrating.
Step It Like It's Hot
Now, I don't know what season we will be in when all this blows over, but one thing I strongly stand by is the need for a pair of wearable, statement boots. These BY FAR Este Snake Print Leather trotters are a great investment piece. Wear with a denim skirt and a white tee, cropped jeans and a cashmere sweater, sweater dress with tights...should I go on?
I Carry You With Me Always
One thing that is apparent in my own wardrobe is clutch bags. Big, small, leather, satin, there is always a time and a place that will warrant a small, yet roomy bag. The Mansur Gavriel Cloud Clutch is a dreamy addition to any look you're hoping to channel this *enter relevant season here*.
Cover Your Back (and nose & mouth)
I think it's safe to say that transeasonal dressing is our goal this year. Pieces that can work come rain or shine will offer us wardrobe-longevity. Take the trusty trench coat, throw over a pencil skirt and blouse for office-chic, or wear with jeans and a tee for weekend-cool. My eyes are on this Greylin Magnolia Trench Coat in Spice - a unique hue with a traditional silhouette.
